A multi-layered, idyllic drama full of beautiful moments and the harsh reality of shepherd life amid breathtaking Alpine panoramas. The flip side of daydreaming about office life leads to unexpected joys and sorrows.
After a stress-related breakdown, advertising copywriter Mathyas from Montreal leaves his old life behind to start afresh as a shepherd in Provence. He has no idea what he's getting himself into, and his first experiences are sobering. He encounters little understanding from the local population. No one takes him seriously either. But Mathyas does not let this deter him, nor does the lack of a work permit. He is determined to continue. In the process, he meets Élise, the civil servant who is handling his case. To his surprise, she is inspired by his idea and spontaneously decides to accompany Mathyas on his romantic journey. As they embark on a trek through the French Alps, they both learn that an idyllic life can bring with it the same stress and logistical headaches they had fled from in the city.
Based on the autobiographical novel by the real Mathyas Lefebure, who also co-wrote the screenplay.
